World Water Day Categories: Dance / Movement, Fundraiser, Sport, and Walk
The Samburu Project (TSP) is a grassroots, 501(c)(3) organization based in Los Angeles, CA. Since 2005, it has been our mission to increase access to clean water in an effort to improve health, expand education, empower women, and encourage growth in the Samburu region of Kenya.
In Samburu, women and girls can walk up to 12 miles each day in search of water. Without access to clean water families are left vulnerable to disease, girls kept out of school, and women are barred from the workforce. A little over 10 years ago, a small group in California joined forces to walk in solidarity with the women of Samburu. Together, they walked 4 miles along the Pacific coast, raising more than $5,000 for TSP. Ten years later, what started as a small beach walk has grown into a global event that encourages students, activists, running enthusiasts, and families across the country to use their voices for change. This year, The Samburu Project’s “Walk” for Water is taking on the virtual space with a month-long fundraising extravaganza. Starting on World Water day, each week will offer supporters a different opportunity to come together FOR WATER.
